Weather Alert: U.S. Embassy Muscat, Oman (May 27, 2018)

Location: Southern Oman, Dhofar Governorate.

Event: Following Tropical Cyclone Mekunu, the Government of Oman (GoO) has reported extensive damage to infrastructure in and around Salalah and other affected parts of southern Oman. In response, the GoO has declared a three-day holiday May 27-29 in the Dhofar governorate. Salalah International Airport resumed full operations May 27 at midnight (12:00 am) local time. Although the cyclone has passed, expect possible power outages, increased wind, possible flooding, and difficult travel conditions and delays in southern Oman. Increased winds and flooding are possible throughout the country.

  • Avoid travel to affected areas.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Monitor the local news for updates.
