U.S. Embassy Muscat, Oman
October 30, 2019
Based on information from the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), the U.S. Embassy Muscat advises U.S. citizens that Cyclone Kyarr is approximately 490 kms away from Ras Madarakah in Duqm. There has been landfall in Sur, Ras al Hadd, and Sharqiya South. Currently, cyclone Kyaar is a CAT-2 typhoon, and it is expected to weaken to CAT-1 strength in the next 24 hours. The seas around Oman from Ras al-Hadd to Salalah will be extremely hazardous for the next 48 hours as Kyarr continues to move west and then deviate towards the southwest direction.
We advise U.S. citizens residing in or traveling through Oman to be vigilant and monitor local news reports for updated weather forecasts. We also recommend that individuals take caution when visiting wadis, beaches, and coastal areas on or along the southern Omani coast and avoid going out to sea.
The U.S. Embassy is closed on Friday and Saturday (regular weekend), but Embassy staff will be available to provide emergency services, if necessary. Please call (968) 2464-3400 if you require emergency assistance.
