Beginning May 7, 2019, in observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, U.S. Embassy Muscat consular service appointment times will change. These new times will be in effect until the end of Ramadan. The last routine American Citizen Services appointments will be available at 12:30pm on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays. Pick-up hours for passports will remain from 11:00am to 12:00pm Sunday-Thursday. All American Citizen Services appointments can still be made through the Embassy website: https://om.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/. For urgent appointments, please email ConsularMuscat@state.gov.
It is important for everyone to learn about the legal requirements and socially acceptable norms for this month, when the people of Muslim faith fast from dawn until sunset. U.S. Embassy Muscat would like to remind American citizens living in the Sultanate of Oman that it is illegal during the fasting hours of Ramadan to drink, eat, smoke, dance, or listen to music in public. The exact times for fasting can be found in daily newspapers. Please note that many local businesses will have altered schedules, and most restaurants will begin serving food at sunset.
Ramadan Kareem.
